Dressed for the Shift
Look of the Week
Each week, one of our in-store stylists puts together two looks they genuinely love — pieces they have been reaching for on the floor, combinations that just clicked. This week it is Lance’s turn. Two looks built around a shared idea: that dressing well for the in-between season — that particular stretch between autumn and winter — can be effortless, intentional, and anything but bland.

Lance
Lance is one of our styling consultants — known on the floor for his expressive eye and his belief that dressing well should feel energising, not effortful. His approach to style is warm, considered, and unapologetically bold when it comes to colour and texture. He understands instinctively how to balance the grounded with the elevated, and how to use a single standout piece to anchor an entire look. If you have ever walked out of Boetiek wearing something you would never have reached for yourself, and felt more yourself for it — Lance may well have had something to do with it.

The Coat
Takes
Centre Stage.
A bold houndstooth coat over a clean white ruffle top, washed denim, and silver sneakers. The coat does all the talking. The rest just gives it room. This is the look that carries you from a morning meeting to lunch on Kloof Street without a second thought.
In Lance’s words
“My style inspiration this week is effortless and intentional dressing for the current changing seasons — we are in that in-between phase, suspended between autumn and winter. This first look transitions easily from business meetings to lunch with friends. The coat takes centre stage against a base of neutrals. Let it lead, and the rest follows naturally.”
— Lance · Styling Consultant, Boetiek
There is a particular confidence that comes with knowing your coat will do the work. Lance built this look around a principle he returns to often: choose one strong piece, then build a clean base beneath it so nothing competes. The Smashed Lemon Houndstooth Coat is that piece — graphic, structured, and entirely at ease whether you are heading into a meeting or stepping out for a late lunch. The silver sneakers are the move that makes the whole look feel current rather than costume.
The Coat — Smashed Lemon Houndstooth Coat in Black & Off-White
Smashed Lemon knows how to make a statement coat that is still deeply wearable. This houndstooth brings bold pattern to a restrained palette — and gold button detail that lifts it without competing with the print.
Smashed Lemon
Houndstooth Coat in Black & Off-White
R 3,299
A coat that carries a look without asking anything of the rest of it. The houndstooth is bold in pattern but entirely restrained in palette — black and off-white with gold button detail that adds a quiet richness. It does the talking. Everything beneath it just needs to listen. The kind of coat that earns its place in a considered wardrobe and stays there for seasons.

Ruffled High Neck Top in Early Frost White
R 2,599
The white top that earns its place in a considered wardrobe. A soft ruffle at the neck adds just enough detail without competing with the coat above it — which is exactly the point. In Early Frost White, it reads clean and deliberate beneath the graphic houndstooth. Worn here peeking out at the neckline: a quiet, considered finish that makes the whole look feel more intentional.

Straight Leg Jeans in Washed Blue Denim
R 3,299
Clean, straight, and effortlessly versatile. These YAYA straight-leg jeans in washed blue denim are the base layer that makes the whole look feel intentional rather than assembled. The lighter wash keeps the look daytime and easy while the straight silhouette provides just enough structure to hold its own under a statement coat. Pair them with anything. They will rarely be wrong.

Two accessories that add warmth and a modern edge to the neutral base — without drawing attention away from the coat.
Rona Jessie — Essa Belt Bag in Beige

Victoria Shoes — Berlin Metal Sneaker in Silver
R 3,699
The Rona Jessie Essa Belt Bag in Beige adds warmth to the neutral base without disrupting the coat’s authority — worn crossbody, it sits quietly against the houndstooth as a considered accent rather than a competing piece. The Victoria Shoes Berlin Metal Sneaker in Silver is the move that makes this look contemporary rather than classic — a modern edge that keeps the coat from feeling too formal, and the whole look feeling genuinely wearable.

“Dressing for winter does not have to be bland. Colour and texture are good for the spirit — for yourself, and for everyone you come in contact with.”

Lush Fur.
Rich Tones.
Sequin Floor.
A cropped faux fur jacket over a deep fudge purple top and a floor-length black sequin skirt. Autumnal richness meets evening glamour — and the contrast between the two is exactly what makes it work. Lance’s instinct for colour, right here.
In Lance’s words
“The fur jacket is lush without feeling overdone — especially when it’s accented against rich autumnal tones. It is perfect for dinner dates. Dressing for winter doesn’t have to be bland. It’s important to add pops of colour and texture. It’s good for the spirit — not just for ourselves when we dress, but for everyone we come in contact with as we head deeper into winter.”
— Lance · Styling Consultant, Boetiek
This is a look built on contrast — and Lance understands contrast better than most. A cropped faux fur jacket that is warm and tactile sits over a deep fudge purple satin-finish top and a floor-length black sequin skirt that catches everything. The combination should not work on paper, and yet on the body it is entirely convincing. The fur grounds the glamour. The sequin gives the fur somewhere to go. The fudge purple is the colour that ties both worlds together.
The Jacket — Brave + True Steinway Jacket in Taupe Fleck
Brave + True makes outerwear that feels luxurious without performing it. The Steinway Jacket — cropped, plush, and beautifully textured — is the kind of faux fur that earns its place in an evening look without tipping into costume.

Steinway Jacket in Taupe Fleck
R 3,700
Cropped, plush, and effortlessly season-right. The Steinway Jacket sits warmly against deep autumnal tones — lush without feeling overdone, which is exactly what Lance was after. In taupe fleck it has a softness that works beautifully against the richness of fudge purple and the drama of a floor-length sequin skirt below. The kind of jacket that elevates everything it sits above.

Mesh Top with Removable Collar in Fudge Purple
R 1,700
The colour that makes this look. In Fudge Purple — a deep, rich autumnal tone — this YAYA mesh top connects the warmth of the fur jacket above with the drama of the sequin skirt below. The removable collar allows you to wear it neat and considered beneath the Steinway Jacket. Also available in black if you want a cleaner, darker base — but for this look, the purple is exactly right.

Brave + True · Australia
Ritz Skirt in Black Sequin
R 2,898
Floor-length, all-over black sequin, and entirely at ease beneath a cropped faux fur jacket. The Ritz Skirt in black is the anchor of this look — the piece that makes everything above it feel more intentional. It moves beautifully, catches light without demanding it, and has a quiet glamour that reads as considered rather than overdone. Also available in champagne for something warmer in tone.
