Cutwork embroidery runs right through this dress. Leaves and small daisies across the yoke, a band of it around each wide cuff, and a deep scalloped border at the hem, every motif outlined in cord and opened with small windows that let the light through. A plaited cord tie with two tassels closes the split neck.
White here is a soft ecru rather than an optic white, the natural colour of unbleached cotton. A band of shirring draws the waist in at its narrowest point, so the full skirt falls away from the body and the blouson sleeves keep their volume.
